ITP

The Institute of Tibetan Plateau research (ITP) was founded in 2003 jointly by both the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the People government of Tibetan Autonomous Region, China and German DFG+MPG, and is a unique institution of Earth sciences on the Qinghai-Xizang (Tibetan) plateau, and a most special institute in CAS which is reflected by its membership in the prestigious cryospheregroup from overseas, Chinese top universities and Cold and Arid Region Environmental Engineering Institute in Lanzhou, China as well. The main tasks of ITP are: entrusted by CAS, tointegrate plans and projects related to the Tibetan Plateau research, to associate and coordinate related institutes, departments, research forces, and resources to play an important role in the development of Tibetan Plateau research. The ITP is strengthening the surveys and data collection systems, enhances laboratory capabilities, and organizes a creative international research team. The scientific objectives of ITP are: to use the latest international methods to analyze primary data and carry out original research on earth structures, environmental gradients, global change, land surface processes, atmospheric processes, and genetic materials.
